5-K, Soccer Games, Super Surprises, and Monday Monsters

Wow, that is a LOT of information in one tiny title, but here goes...

I had signed up for my second ever 5-K about a month ago...BEFORE we had received #1 and #2's soccer game schedule. #1's first game: 9:00 a.m., 5-K start time: 9:30 a.m., #2's first game: 11:00 a.m.  How the crap was I going to pull this one off? Well, I probably shouldn't have gone to the 5-K, but it was already paid for and I'm too cheap practical to just throw money away on something. I was planning on going to #1's soccer game for a bit, leaving to run in the race, meeting the fam back at home, showering, and going to #2's game. Oh, and did I mention we had to be out of town at a certain time for my older sister's surprise birthday party?

We woke up Saturday morning to...RAIN...again with the rain. So I thought the soccer games would be cancelled and I wouldn't have to deal with the mama guilt being over-scheduled.  Nope, they played in the rain. So, I'm scrambling to get everyone/everything ready so we could be on time.  Everyone (except me) gets loaded in the bus family truckster, and #1 starts crying because I wasn't going to his game.

Me: OK, let me just go in and grab my pants, and I'll follow you there and watch for a while. (I didn't know where the park was-we have a ton in our town and I don't know the names of them all)....I run in, run back out...they left WITHOUT ME!!!!!!
Me: FURIOUS and mumbling some not-very-nice things under my breath at my husband who had ditched me.
Phone rings: (It's hubby): Just go to your run...Jake's fine.
Me: AAARRRGGGHHH!!! hung up on him, after I think I told him to shut-up or something equally mature.  Hopped in the car to try to find the park, called hubby to ask him where the _ _ park was (I normally do NOT swear, I hate swearing, and I hate it when other people swear at me, but people...I swore).
Hubby: I told you how to get to the park, just go to your run.
Me: defeatedly...Fine.

Good thing I went when I did, I had to park in Guam to get to the starting line. Anyways, we all lined up to start, the rain was still pouring down, two middle-aged men guys the same age as me lined up next to me, and said they planned to run this thing in 18 minutes! Apparently, the older you get, the better you get at distance running. Hmmm, I was wondering what happened to me. Turns out, I'm just getting old.

I finished the race in 25:28, came in 12th place out of 350 runners, and 5th place for women, got a cool new T-shirt and some other goodies, and booked it home.

On to #2's soccer game,(no I didn't have time to shower, and probably looked a bit frightening). It was freezing cold and very wet. Is it wrong I was counting down the minutes until the game was over and I could warm up? And then she scored a goal!! THUNDEROUS APPLAUSE (by me anyway).

Onto our next adventure...a surprise 40th birthday party for my older than me sister.
No, her cake isn't on fire, but that's A LOT of candles!

She was so surprised. She thought she was coming over to babysit for our niece, (and kept changing the time she would be over, making for a VERY complicated surprise).  A fun and too short time was had by all. (And family members of mine...if anyone is reading this...I do NOT want a surprise party for a milestone birthday, I don't like surprises...a $500 check in lieu of a party is fine with me).

And finally, Mondays. There are exactly 4 more school Mondays left until summer vacation. Yes, I'm counting down...apparently my kids turn into monsters on Monday mornings.  I won't go into details, just know this: there was crying, there was screaming(not by me, I had to bite my tongue), there was candy-begging and there was wrestling. I. CAN"T. WAIT. FOR. SUMMER VACATION.!!!!!!!!
